Certified Now Rents a Custom Mine Shaft Inspection Camera System

posted by Certified Sales and Rentals    |   April 21, 2017 13:50

Mine shaft inspections are a necessity in the mining industry. However, inspecting a mine shaft can be a dangerous endeavor. Yet safety of workers is always the primary concern in the mining industry. From safety training you learn that eliminating a hazard is the best way of avoiding an accident. It was with this thought in mind that the employees of Fortis and Certified developed a unique Mine Shaft Inspection Camera System with the latest video technology. With the Certified Mine Shaft Camera System you eliminate the need to lower a mine worker down a mine shaft, a potentially dangerous situation.

Our mine shaft cameras can be attached to cables and guided down the mine shaft, via the custom crosshead camera mount system. This mounting system was designed, engineered and fabricated by Certified's sister company Fortis Mining Engineering & Manufacturing. The inspection camera has a 360 degree field of view and will live feed crystal clear images, even in complete darkness. With the signal being instantly sent wirelessly by a broadband customer premise unit to a HD CVI Recorder. Which in turn can display the live streaming video on any type of display. Including the 15 inch monitor that is included with our system.

Certified can train users, or an operator can be provided on site to work equipment. The Certified Mine Shaft Inspection Camera is now the fastest and safest way to inspect a mine shaft. Mines that utilizing this product will be protecting their workers and reduce downtime.

Certified Now a Distributor For J.D. Neuhaus Hoists

posted by Certified Sales and Rentals    |   September 7, 2016 10:14

We are excited to announce our most recent partnership with J.D. Neuhaus.  Certified is now an authorized sales, rentals and service provider of one of the worlds highest quality manufactures of chain hoists.   We are the official Saskatchewan distributor of JDN hoists.

Who is J.D. Neuhaus and why would you want their chain hoists?  Direct from J.D. Neuhaus themselves,

"Machine construction company J.D. Neuhaus has conquered the global market with pneumatic and hydraulic hoists. In Germany, they count among the “hidden champions” – successful medium-sized companies who put big corporations in the shade with their special products. For many years, J.D. Neuhaus GmbH & Co. KG (JDN) from Witten has been at the top of this "Champions League". With a range of pneumatic and hydraulic hoists and crane systems that can be operated safely in spark-free high-safety environments, JDN, Germany’s oldest machine construction company still in family hands after 265 years, is at the top of its game as world market leader.

Founded in 1745, J.D. Neuhaus has developed from a historical winch forge to a mining equipment supplier and, finally, into today’s specialist in lifting technology. Since 1995, company management has been in the hands of Wilfried Neuhaus-Galladé. “Our aim is to be the best - both in terms of technical development and in customer orientation,” is the philosophy of the family-owned company.'"

Additional advantages of J.D. Neuhaus Hoists:

  • JDN prides themselves on having inventory and parts readily available.   They have a North American facility that leads to tremendous lead time advantage over their competitors.
  • Hydraulic Hoist
    • Super-silent operation
    • Pre-destined for applications in explosion-endangered areas (Explosion protection comes standard)
    • Encapsulated and robust gear motor
  • Ultra-Low Headroom Monorail Hoists
    • Up to 100t capacity
    • Extremely low headroom – Example: 6t pneumatic chain hoist only 8.26 inches minimum height
  • For applications involving heat requirements, the JDN Pneumatic hoists would be the preferred option for several reasons:
    • The main advantage of pneumatic hoists lies in the uncomplicated driving medium compressed air and on the other hand on its solid and compact construction
    • No limitations with reference to operating times
    • No duty cycle limitations – ideal for large lifting heights, as an electric hoist will need to be cooled periodically to prevent overheating
    • No limitation in shift frequency (Start and Stops) – ideal for workshops with high job frequency or serial fabrication (Automotive industry)
    • JDN hoists tolerate high ambient temperatures – as high as +70 C on the motor and as high as 150 C on chain and hook
  • For applications involving hazardous areas, due to classifications, the JDN Pneumatic hoists would be the preferred option for several reasons:
    • No electrical sparks with an air motor, due to the JDN design not having electric component
    • No necessity for heavy and expensive electrical design, neither on the hoist or on the installation
    • Connecting the air hoist to the energy source is extremely easy, no need to wait for electricians or other specialized technicians
    • No mechanical sparks by using spark resistant package, can be used in flammable environments
    • The hoists are price wise extremely attractive compared to explosion proof electric hoists – An explosion proof electric chain hoist will be twice the cost of the JDN explosion proof hoist
    • Electric hoist will need additional protection for the areas regarding the electric motors, electric feeding system, distribution boxes and control devices

Certified can repair, service and recertify all makes and models of chain and lever hoists.  We will have trained technicians for service and repairs of all JDN products.  We will make your hoists look like they just came out of the box!

What does the future hold for Mining Equipment?

posted by Certified Sales and Rentals    |   December 2, 2015 11:43

If your involved in the mining industry, the future of mining equipment is a topic you are probably interested in.

According to an article on PRNewswire.com, the future is bright, "World demand to rise 7+% annually through 2019

Global demand for mining equipment is forecast to grow more than seven percent annually to $140 billion in 2019. While growth will slow from the 2009-2014 period, commodity prices are expected to increase by 2019, helping to fuel mining equipment demand gains. In addition, growth in manufacturing output, especially in the developing world, and renewed strength in construction in much of the developed world will continue to support mining equipment sales growth.

Drills & breakers to be fastest growing equipment

Demand for mining equipment will increase at similar rates across nearly all product types, with sales of drills and breakers expanding the fastest. These units are used almost universally across all mining operations, especially during the exploration phase of a project. Additionally, the growing use of in situ mining techniques, where these products are a primary type of equipment employed, will boost demand. Crushing, pulverizing, and screening equipment and surface mining machinery will record the next fastest market gains. Underground mining equipment demand, on the other hand, will grow at the slowest rate of any major product type, with much of the deceleration occurring in China. Over the past decade China has invested heavily in underground mining equipment to improve the safety and productivity of its coal mining operations. However, much of this mechanization drive has been finished, limiting future sales opportunities.

Developing world to remain fastest growing market

The developing world will continue to post the fastest gains in mining equipment demand. Many developing countries have significant metals and coal mining industries that require substantial levels of capital investment. This includes the Asia/Pacific region and Central and South America, which have large metals mining industries, and Eastern Europe and the Africa/Mideast region, which are sizable coal producers. Developing nations are also the most intensive users of mining equipment, when measured against mining output, due to the level of capital spending required in metals and coal mining operations. Developing nations are also the most intensive users of mining equipment, when measured against mining output, due to the level of capital spending required in metals and coal mining operations. After more than tripling in size between 2009 an d 2014, China will remain the largest national market for mining equipment sales in 2019. Rapid gains in manufacturing output and construction activity in the country, as well as government efforts to boost the mechanization of China's mines, resulted in torrid growth historically. Although it will remain a much smaller market, India will record the fastest gains of any country through 2019, as there is still a significant need for mine mechanization in India. In addition, mining output growth in India will be among the strongest in the world.

The developed countries of Western Europe and North America will experience more modest rates of growth through 2019, although mining equipment demand in Western Europe will accelerate from the 2009-2014 period as the region's construction industry rebounds from a decade long decline. The majority of mining activity in these nations is for aggregates, which require less capital spending per metric ton of output than metals or coal. In addition, coal consumption and associated mining output is falling in many industrialized countries, as regulatory mandates lead to greater use of other energy sources.

The Northern Strands Group of Companies was proud to show it's support of the Children's Wish FoundationSaskatchewan at the 2nd Annual Chris Getzlaf Charity Golf Tournament.   In 2014 The Northern Strands Group of Companies employees raised $10,000 for Children's Wish Saskatchewan and helped grant the first ever Super Bowl Wish granted in Saskatchewan!  We were very fortunate to meet Jared at the tournament.

Jared's heart felt Wish Profile is attached below...

Wish Profile - Jared (2).pdf (290.83 kb)

Jared was the main focus of the event, being the first Super Bowl wish granted in Saskatchewan.   They played Jared’s football highlight video which ended in a chorus of clapping.   Jared was an amazing football player.   Jared really appreciated the fact that we came down to meet him.   We had many excellent conversations with him.   We had so much fun talking football with him that our guys almost missed the T off!

Here is a picture of our guys at the Chris Getzlaf Golf Tournament with Jared and some great comments below.

Curtis Witt

“It was very nice to meet Jared and his family. When I got to talk with Jared briefly about football, any name I would mention, he knew exactly who I was talking about. It’s great a football fan such as Jared got to go to the Super Bowl. He really enjoyed it”.

Jeff Caswell

“The Children’s Wish Golf Tournament was a great experience to be part of! Jared and his family are such great people to talk and share stories with.  It was really uplifting to hear their story and stories from other families about how the Children’s Wish Foundation helps and contributes to make their lives a little easier. The celebrities that were in attendance were a class act too! Everyone involved in this event deserves great praise for their efforts in making such a wonderful day and experience for the children and their families, as well as the golfers taking part in the day.”

Nathan Reed

"The 2nd Getzlaf and Friends golf tournament was a fantastic experience.  It was great to see the Children's Wish Foundation being supported by such a great group of sponsors, celebrities, and volunteers.  Meeting Jared's family and hearing about their Super Bowl Wish experience first-hand made me proud that the NS Group of Companies would support such a cause."

We saw first-hand what a difference Jared’s Wish made in his life.   Both Jared and his family were very grateful.
